Xu Huaizhong (1929 -), born in Hebei Province, is a writer, vice-chairman of the Chinese Writers Association, and member of the All-China Federation of Literary and Art-Circles. After leaving school in 1945, he joined the Chinese army at the end of the Second World War. He worked his way up to the Department of Literature of People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art and was awarded the rank of Major General in 1988.
He is a multi-talented writer who has mentored some of the most prominent names in Chinese literature including Mo Yan, and has produced works in various forms, including the novel That Which Can’t Be Washed Away which won the Mao Dun Literature Prize in 2019, and We Sow Love.
