Huang Tongtong

Huang Tongtong, born in the 1970s in Hunan Province, lives in Guangzhou in southern China. Originally trained as an English teacher, she moved into journalism at the turn of the millennium, writing for the Chinese editions of leading international publications such as Vogue, Elle, GQ, Cosmo, Marie Claire and the Financial Times. In addition to working as a fashion magazine editorial director, she has written fourteen novels and short story collections.

Specialising in profiles and interviews, she built a reputation for her concise, passionate, yet warm writing style, which has gained her a large urban and female following.

Her fiction writings mostly centre on the challenges modern Chinese women face in their daily lives, built upon a decades-long experience sharing the stories of her interviewees, many of whom are leading national figures in contemporary culture.
